When to Book Your Newborn Photographer
The calm before the beautiful chaos
Pregnancy moves fast. One minute you’re counting weeks, the next you’re holding your little one and wondering how time slipped by so quickly. Planning your newborn session early gives you the space to relax and know that those first tender weeks will be documented beautifully, without any last-minute stress.
The best time to book
The ideal time to book your newborn photographer is during your second trimester, usually between 20 and 30 weeks.
By this stage, you’ve had time to settle into your pregnancy, and it’s early enough to secure your preferred photographer before their diary fills up.
I always reserve a flexible window around your due date rather than a fixed day. Babies arrive in their own time, so once your little one is here, you simply message me and we’ll confirm a date that suits you within that window.
Why timing matters
Booking early means you’ll have one less thing to think about later. It allows you to:
Choose your preferred photographer before their calendar fills.
Ask questions and plan your session at your own pace.
Enjoy those early days without rushing to find someone last minute.
The optimum time to photograph your newborn is within the first two weeks after birth. During this time, babies are still tiny, sleepy, and naturally curled into those beautiful newborn positions that define The Snug Sessions style. As babies become more alert and start discovering their limbs and movement, it becomes trickier to capture those soft, curled-up poses and sleepy details that make these sessions so special.
That’s why booking early is so important; it ensures we have space to document this fleeting, beautiful stage before it passes.
What happens if your baby arrives early or late
Don’t stress. Your booking with me is always flexible.
Once you’ve secured your session, I pencil a block of time into my diary to allow for early, on-time, or fashionably late arrivals. When your baby is born, just send me a quick message and we’ll confirm the day that works best for your family.
Booking seasonally
If you’re due between may and october, it’s worth booking even earlier, as this tends to be my busiest season. Spring and winter are a little quieter, but I still recommend getting in touch as soon as you feel ready.
A calm, baby-led experience
The Snug Sessions are designed to be relaxed and unhurried. Each session takes place in your home, using soft natural light and a baby-led approach that allows for feeding, changing, and cuddles whenever needed. By booking early, you can simply sink into the moment and enjoy your time together while I capture the beauty of it all.
