In Home vs Studio Newborn Photography
Welcome to a brand new chapter
You have just brought a tiny human into the world.
Your days are filled with feeding, cuddling, learning, and loving.
And now you want to capture it.
Not just what it looks like, but what it feels like.
There are two main styles of newborn photography:
Studio and In Home
Both create beautiful images, but they offer very different experiences and end results.
Studio newborn photography
Studio sessions usually involve:
Travelling to a photographer’s studio
Specific posing positions
A controlled environment with artificial light
A photographer who poses your baby in styled positions
This style can look polished and curated.
It suits parents who love a more posed, classic look with props or intricate setups.
There is nothing wrong with studio photography at all.
It just offers a different experience and a different final feel.
In-home newborn photography
In-home photography is exactly what it sounds like.
Your home.
Your light.
Your real life.
No need to pack bags or leave the house.
No stress about timing naps, feeds, or outfits.
I bring the styling, textures, wraps and everything I need to create something magical right where you are.
You get to stay in your environment.
You get to stay in the moment.
In-home photography is very much baby-led.
If they need to be fed, we pause.
If they need to be changed, we pause.
If they want to be held, we capture that moment instead.
The difference in the result
Studio photography captures what your baby looks like.
In-home photography captures what this time feels like.
Studio images are posed and placed.
In-home images are natural, emotional and full of real connection.
Studio is about creating a picture.
In home is about preserving a memory.
Why The Snug Sessions are in home
I’ve been there, I’ve experienced the chaos of navigating those first few weeks with a newborn( twice) and I absolutly did not want to leave the bubble and safety of my home.
Because the newborn phase is tender and intimate and fleeting.
Because babies settle more easily in familiar spaces with familiar sounds and smells.
Because parents deserve to experience their session instead of performing for it.
because you’ve just had a baby and the last thing you need to be doing is attempting to leave the house!
I want you to remember:
The warmth in the room
The way they curled their tiny fingers around yours
How your partner looked at you when you became parents
This chapter deserves to be documented honestly, not staged.
Which one is right for you?
Choose studio if:
You love posed, polished images
You are drawn to props and styled backdrops
You want very structured posing
Choose in home if:
You want a relaxed, baby-led experience
You want images that feel natural, emotional and real
You want to stay in your home surrounded by your own story
There is no wrong choice. Only the choice that feels most like you.
The heart of it all
Your home does not need to be perfect.
Your baby does not need to sleep on command.
Your session does not need to be staged.
It just needs to be true.
If you want newborn photos that feel like slow mornings, quiet cuddles and real memories, The Snug Sessions are here for you.
